Congratulations on your new car. May you enjoy driving around. We could rarely afford a car growing up. I used to watch the poodles go by in their fancy cars while my family walked. I am hoping to go car free by choice. Cities have all sorts of programs that did not exist in the past.

I saw a reunion on the pit bull reality show. The dog was washed out. Not much of a presence. When he saw former owner, he came to life! He was so happy. Oh, I miss my fox terrier. Rainbow Bridge had better exist. Of course, this is an atheist website so maybe Rainbow Bridge is out.

Wikipedia... JW Editing
by Poztate inthere must be a lot of jw's out there with time on their hands.
look where the topic of jw's comes it at with the all time top 100 edited pages.

I read the editing page frequently. Some battle is taking place most of the time. I admire the apostates who take part. They not only know the subject matter but the wikipedia rules and protocol. The ranking shocked me. Immense religious movements of importance vs. the JWs.

Writing campaign to Washington DC papers in view of International Convention
by Londo111 inive heard from a credible source that the landover (dc) international convention is important to the society in view of the 100 year anniversary of "kingdom rule" and the location being near the capital of the "seventh world power".
perhaps they hope this particular international sends a message.
we know that come convention time usually there is some feel good fluff piece in the newspapers about the watchtower religion.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art had a major exhibit on "Rembrandt and the Faces of Jesus." Jesus' depiction in Medieval Art always bothered me. The galleries in NY are near the ladies room. I would run through them. He was flat, emaciated, yucky. I discovered that the Vatican imposed a template for Jesus' face on artists. If you wanted to live, you had to follow the rules. They mistakenly believed that a relatively late painting of Jesus was genuine. Rembrandt was the first major Protestant artists. He was free to model Jesus on anyone. Amsterdam was full of Sephardic Jews. They modeled for him.
The WT is racist. Semitics Jesus' are all over the Internet. I wonder if the GB does not project itself onto images of Jesus. The early Catholic Jesus images caused a strong reaction in me. The WT illustrations are boring. Rembrandt gives him an intimacy. The WT does not. Andy Warhol's images of Jesus are more moving.

Harrass them before they harrass you
by SonoftheTrinity inwhy don't dfs who really know how evil jehovah's witnesses are just harrass them as they go door knocking so that when someone intervenes to defend them they get a balanced story about what the jehovah's witnesses are all about.
the ones that were raised in it were raised to be anti-intellectual wusses, they aren't going to win a debate or kick anyone's ass.
but they certainly deserve philosophical and rhetorical smackdowns, they deserve haters standing in their way as they go harrassing everybody in the neighborhood.

6I think you could get arrested. The Internet makes following them unnecessary. I am shocked at how little people know about the Witnesses. I try to educate in a low-key manner. Armageddon is shocking to most people. Shunning also makes people think that perhaps they are more complicated than meets the eye. I also relate how I was waiting to go to court to finish high school. If people knew, they would not be so welcome. Read JW.org and decide if it describes the doctrines you were taught at the KH.

Kingdom Hall not a Safe Place for Children
by Jeannette inbesides having to sit through endless boring meetings during the evenings when they should be in bed getting their necessary rest for school the next day, they are falling asleep in the chairs with their little heads falling over.
then all their fun is taken away by such a strict religion and a desert god which makes them grow up with no self esteem whatsoever.
they tell them they're all sinners from the womb up and only a rod will remove it.

Part of me would like to allow children of a certain age to choose whether they will attend religious services. Attending meetings was child abuse. I believe a teenager could choose under certain circumstances. My parents had no right to decide whether or not I would attend college. A bunch of prudes ruled yet almost weekly a classmate was kicked out for sexual conduct. It was an epidemic. I figure I could get about one thousand votes.

?? Question for those that have successfully faded/are out:
by Darth Fader The Sequel inquestion: can any of you that have successfully faded out of the jw world without being df'd or da'd relate to me/us how you were able to maintain at least one or a few of your "still in" friends or family?
(and even if you were df'd or da'd and still maintained some relationships, how did that go?).
obviously, the truly demented, sick and twisted (and highly effective) policies and structure of the wtbt$ to set up a system by which anyone that chooses to no longer believe or participate must be treated as "mentally diseased" and a pariah by their own friends and family is the hands down, numero uno reason why many hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of jw's do not leave.

I feared the loss of my extended JW family. They were very devout. When the time came, they still spoke to us. We never made an announcement that we left the Witnesses. There was tension. My family was famous for belief in doctrine but contempt for Bethel. When my uncle was dying, I ran to the er. Despite informing the hospital that he had no brothers, the hospital let a Witness in to visit. My uncle was very uncomfortable. I introduced myself.

English History - The Real Richard III - Warning: Nothing to do with JWs.
by fulltimestudent inwarning for thoe who want to read only jw related material: this thread has nothing to do with either the real or imagined world of the jws.
do not read if that upsets you!.
demonstrating how imagination can prevail over reality, the recent discovery of richard the third's remains has enabled forensic scientists to check what he may actually have looked like, and have been able to demonstrate that shakespeare's depiction of him was highly colored.

I recall reading more than 40 years ago that Shakekspeare had to stay on Elizabeth's good side. Besides, Richard III's enemies wrote early biographies of Richard. It was not in their interest to show truth. I don't know for certain but it was not news in my day. His historical plays usually contain at least passing reference to how history is repeated in the present. Harold Bloom writes about the process. Perhaps I paid attention b/c of my major.
